A real lambskin will be with you for many years – provided you care for it properly. Fortunately, that is very easy.
Day to day
- Shake it out: Shake the lambskin out regularly to remove dust and dirt.
- Brush it: Brush long-wool lambskins now and then with a lambskin brush. This keeps the wool loose and stops it matting.
- Air it: Hang the lambskin outside in the shade from time to time. Fresh air removes odours quite naturally.
Stains
Small stains are best dabbed off straight away with a damp cloth and, if needed, a little mild wool detergent. Do not rub and do not use hot water.
What you should avoid
- Water and rain: The leather side can become stiff if it gets wet and dries again.
- Direct sunlight: Dyed lambskins can fade in direct sunlight.
- Washing machine and tumble dryer: please never use them for your lambskin.
- Underfloor heating on a high setting: It can dry out the leather.
Storage
Store the lambskin somewhere dry, cool and airy. Do not wrap it in plastic – wool needs to breathe.
